A new cadre of craft professionals needs to be created who are able to effectively deal with upcoming challenges and bring design to the advantage of the Indian crafts industry. The Diploma Programme in Craft Design to be offered by the UPID is an attempt to meet such educational needs and serve the crafts sector in the scenario of globalisation. It shall be a full-time programme spread over six semesters.

Development of professional and vocational skills of design shall be given importance. Inputs are chosen from diverse domains so as to string together interdisciplinary know-how and contextual industry experience. Recognition from the UP Board of Technical Education, Lucknow will be sought once the institute is fully established.

The programme shall be led by a full-time senior faculty member under mentorship of UPID. Master craftspeople, experts from industry and academia shall be invited to conduct specific courses throughout the programme. It is suggested to start this programme with a batch of 15 students.
