With vision to become one of the pioneer design, craft, apparel and textile library in the state. To assist the institute through the providing of quality scholarly resources to enable it to contribute to state through excellence in design, craft and apparel education and research.

Develop a sustainable knowledge portal for design study and research based on an integrated information management system with the applications of state –of –the –art ICTs.

Modern Knowledge Resource Centre the library at UPIDR – Lucknow is being developed as the state-of –the –art state library and information centre in designing.

The Knowledge Resource Centre (KRC) is the custodian of design and intelligence at UPIDR-Lucknow. Based on the recommendations of UPIDR, the Government of Uttar Pradesh constituted the Uttar Pradesh Institute of design (UPID) in year 2003 as an autonomous institute registered under the Indian societies Act 1860 for the purpose of conducting suitable certificate / degree /diploma courses in craft / design education.

During the initial years the library and design professionals, in cooperation with the faculty, painstakingly collected learning resources and cultural artefacts from all over India to develop this unique repository. Since its inception KRC combined the roles of a library to some extent that of the other memory institutions such as archive and museum in preservation, discovery and dissemination.

With the emergence of the new millennium as UPIDR developed in to an institution of design research and added new campus. Its integrated collections of print, digital, audio contemporary Indian designing fashion. At present KRC is exploring new vistas as it is situated at the intersection of multiple ideas related to Design education, Material cultural, Cultural and social informatics including Digital Library and Virtual museums.

KRC has undertaken various activities related to digital preservation of select print and non- print materials in the collections of RCs. It is engaged in creation of an institutional repository with various sub repositories such as intellectual and creative assets of the institution.

A repository of craft cluster reports and artefacts are also under construction for the craft cluster project of UPIDR.

KRC ( library ) comprise of specialized collections of books on fashion designing, costume designing, crafts technology, jewellery designing, photography, art, painting, drawing and very huge collection of other general books.

Recognizing the role of library and information services in meeting the requirements of the institute’s academic, research and training programmes, the Library was set – up as one of the key division of the U.P Institute of design and research, Lucknow campus.

Managed by the competent and energetic professionals, the library has taken the shape of a Knowledge Resource Centre (KRC) by providing value added services using the latest information technology.

(General Rules and Regulations)

All the users are hereby informed that the main purpose of these rules to safe guard the common interest of all users to enable the library to carry out its functions as efficiently as possible.  Failure to observe the rules can lead to disqualification. Some important rules and regulations are given below.

  • It is mandatory for all the users to put their signature in the visitors register at the time of entry in to the library and also will have to put their signature in the issue/return register at the time of issue.
  • All personal belongings except purses/wallet and notebook shall be left at property box.
  • Two books will be issued for seven days only.
  • Borrowers must return their reading materials when due.
  • Borrowers will be held responsible for any mutilation (including defacement) found in the library materials when returned.  They must check and report any mutilation found before borrowing.
  • Borrowers must report the loss of library ticket and   other library materials immediately to the UPIDR Library.
  • A sum of Rs.5/- per day per book shall be charged if the book is not returned within the due date.
  • Fines will be calculated, according to the rates of fine from the due date to the date when the material was lost.
  • Renewal of books can be done if these are not in demand.
  • Reference books like Encyclopaedias, dictionaries, expensive imported books, Journals and CDs will not be issued.
  • Rs.10/- shall be charged for the loss of the library ticket.
  • Loss of Book – student must either replace the same with latest edition or pay the latest cost of book.
  • To issue /return members are required to be present in person. The library ticket is not transferable.
  • Proper   decorum should be maintained inside the library. Spitting, drinking, eating and sleeping inside the library are strictly prohibited.
  • Library staff will not be responsible for user’s personal belongings.
  • Marking, tick mark, underline, defacing of any publication is strictly forbidden.
  • The library entry is strictly banned during the class.  
  • Improper use of library facilities by users will lead to the suspension /termination of his/her membership.
  • Library rules and regulations shall be modified from time to time and shall be binding on all concerned.
  • Users are responsible for complying with copy right act while photocopying library documents.
  • No user shall take a book or journal or any other material out of the library without having it properly issued.
